Who am I?

My name is Iris Jomellee Garcia, and I am a Computer Science Major at Lamar University in Beaumont, TX, with a Minor in Spanish.  I have also worked as a Research assistant for the past 4 years in the WiReD Team, which has now expanded into INSPIRED

Aside from being a student, I am a full time mother of two beautiful girls.  In this present time, family, education, and as well as planning my career, are my main focuses.

My History

Born and raised from Manila, Philippines.  Most of my educational years has been spent here in Beaumont, TX.

As a freshman at Lamar, I started working in the Computer Science Department as a research assistant for the CS WiReD Team [which stands for:  Women in Research Development] in Fall of 2004.  We conducted research in navigation in robotics and have participated in outreach programs to local schools.

Starting September 1, 2007, WiReD has now expanded into INSPIRED [Increasing Student Participation in Research Development] which includes Women and Minorities.  INSPIRED has grown out of works of WiReD, and hopes to do more to increase participation in computing.
